Depends on what type of cam. We need to know at least what kind it is. Part number??????
Most towing cams or truck RV cams are melling mtc-1. Melling MTC-1 cams are the most common replacement RV cam put into trucks and theres a good reason, They rock! These cams are highly underrated meaning they have low duration and lift numbers but in a stock headed engine they live quite well and produce around 30hp more than stock.

OK, as long as we're talking about going fast... our 2001 Firebird weighs 2280 with driver and runs 4.96 in the 1/8 with a mild spray and a 509 inch big block. Has a 1.12 60 ft.......... It'll be better next year when the 630 inch motor is done!!!!!!

bad weekend......
« Reply #8 on: September 24, 2002, 05:04:00 PM »
OK, a bad weekend at Bradenton....... the car went OK but times fell off all weekend due to weather. When it came down to it, we only went one round and the timing computer really let us down. Said we should have gone a 7.34(1/4) but we only went a 7.42...... hmmmmm, time to rethink a computer......

Not only 12.1, but 12.1 at 4,800 ft elevation!!!  That would correct to about an 11 flat at sea level.  Hmmmmmmmm..........Don't think so!!!

thats what im sayin..............my 427 is about 500HP and my truck weighs in at 4160 with me in it. i havent ran it yet at the track, caus ei dont have the right gears and the engine only has 800 miles on it. but im guessing ill run a low 13 or MAYBE a very high 12. a 350 thats mild in a heavy truck i doubt runs deep 12's at almost a mile high? no way jose.

Did you guys check out the entire sig? 440hp and 460lbs/ft with a 1.94 intake valve? Not going to happen. 58cc chambers? Sounds like a 305 head to me, not even close to being able to support 440hp with a 1.94 intake. A comp 270H cam? Even with AFR heads with 1.94 intakes that cam will not make that much power from 350cid. 3 on the tree? YEAH RIGHT! I hate people that run sh*t out of their mouth.

My muncie 4 speeded, 383 with vortec heads, 10:1 compression, comp 280H cam, 750DP'd  78c10 makes 413hp and 430lbs/ft and will only run in the mid 13's if I got perfect traction.

Lack of power

Are you experiencing black smoke before it warms up?  From the work you did, it sounds like a choke  adjustment problem.  If your choke is set too rich (closed too far), you will get black smoke until it warms up.  I suppose that it could be open too far also, meaning it would be too lean until it warmed up, but you would probably get a backfire through the carb or something with that problem.  Check the choke first.  A timing problem should not get better after warming, so I don't suspect that.
