ive seen people cut holes in the door just to fit speakers. if it was me i would look into kick panel speakers IF i wanted speakers in the floor.

I've yet to take the decorative panels off the door to see what's actually there, but the doors would be the best place for some speakers, maybe some 5" or 6" speakers. Right now, it's just a big flat wasted space.

6x9 will fit fine but once you hack your doors open you are stuck. It is just metal behind that carpet

If there's nothing actually back there (window parts) or anything, then that's actually perfect XD

That is the worst place to put a speaker in my opinion. it would have to be at the front near your feed and it will CONSTANTLY get wet.
We sell kick panels for this very reason.

I know I have seen a few people do it. There are window parts back there so don't get a real deep speaker. 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 should be fine. I'm not sure why all you guys think it would be so problematic. Every gm truck I know of 88 on up has speakers down there. It probably would not be a bad idea to put some kind of plastic around the back of the speaker though just to help keep it dry from the back. As long as the plastic is semi loose it shouldn't affect the sound quality.
I didn't like having 6x9s behind my seat because it muffled them but there is a little more gap in a square then in my 96 so it might be fine

Does your truck have power windows?
I had an 88 Jimmy I put Boston Acoustics 5.2 component speakers in. I mounted the 5" speakers in the doors and the tweeters in the dash (in the stock location).
My truck had power windows. I had to lower the map pocket in the door down an inch or so. The speaker fit under the window switches / above the map pockets.

My truck was already cut when I bought it, so I just refilled the holes with new ones.

Mine came with speakers in the doors. They are ok, but since they are way down at the bottom of the door, they aren't that powerful. I added a dual speaker in the dash, and that is better. I would think the cab corners would be much better

Doors have pro's and con's, as many have pointed out.
From a sound quality standpoint, mostly bad. Steel, even American, does not make a good speaker, and that's what your door becomes after bolting a speaker to it and doing nothing else.
IMO, going with kick panels using a mid range drivers, along with 6x9's behind the seats for bass ONLY, and adding some decent tweeters as close to ear level as you can get (hidden in the dash works) is the real ticket.
Short of the tweets, go with a two-way (mid range & tweeter combo) in the kicks. The sound will reach your ears better than two door speakers arguing with each other under the shadow of your seats.
Above all else, go with a multi channel amp with some pump because it's not volume, but control, that makes the difference. Crossovers will to the rest of the heavy lifting.
It's more of a custom app but the results are something you will enjoy listening to.
Okay, going to go lay down by my bowl...
