Used my 4WD for the first time
« on: December 26, 2010, 02:20:21 PM »
Well me and the kids went out this afternoon after we received about 16inches of snow, so I finally had a need to use the 4WD.  She pulls like a tank in the snow, I loved it!

My question is how often should the differential oils front and rear and transfer case oil be changed, and what type of fluid do you guys recommend?  To my knowledge the only fluids that have ever been changed in this truck is the transmission fluid and engine oil. I'm sure after 27 years that diff gear oil has seen its better days.

80/90 is what I use. It should run just fine.

I was reading a old post from Vile, and he recommends 80/90 and 75/140 synthetic.

Thanks.  Yes it was great fun.  I have so many little maintenance projects to do when it warms up, replacing all the rubber fuel lines, radiator hoses, valve guide seals, re-grounding the sending units, changing all the fluids, installing my roll-in bed liner, and more.  It is kind of overwhelming to think about it.  I'm just buying stuff now so I have all the supplies I need once it warms up.
