Post by: 123 pugsy on September 03, 2006, 07:33:00 PM
Tore apart a 350 I had from my last truck.Found some gouges and srapes made from the last "rebuild mechanic" in cylinder #4. Ya ,right.Didn't even send the crank out for grinding. Anyhow, its bored .040 over now. Anybody know if it can be bored over .060"?

Its an 86 with 1 pce. rear seal.

No projects going ,so I gotta do something.I'm getting stir crazy!

Yes, the engine can go 0.060" over.  However, that kind of cuts things a little thin and makes this, "the last hooraah" for the block.  If it ever needs another rebuild, it will have to be sleeved or honed very lightly if in good enough condition.
Also, check to see how deep the scratches are, they may hone out if the piston will still have 0.0035" clearance or less with the cylinder, however, I would not use on that way.  I keep my tolerances to 0.001" or less in bore measurement from the size of overbore I want to use as much as possible.  My engines are usually impossible to turn by hand and difficult to turn with a 1/2" breaker.  They run very well and break in very quickly, but it is H#$% on the starter.

Definately not a hone job. The scrape is too deep.

No. I just needed something to do. I'm thinking to build it using a TPI intake system and dropping it on the test stand to check it out.

Its for a future project.Probably a 37-41 car.

If it runs really good....... who knows where it will end up. >D
