Good morning from the far north here in Alaska! I just picked up my old chevy truck and a friend recommended you guys were the right crowd to get signed in with. He seems to think the little short bed I picked up for a steal might actually be a rather uncommon one. She's not rocking her proper stepside bed anymore and it's a little rough, but the bones are good and she runs great. What do y'all think, common, uncommon, down right rare.... Doesn't really matter just cool anyway?

Not sure if rare, I'd say uncommon for sure.  Diesel powered Silverado K-10 with a short stepside bed is out of the ordinary.  Special order vehicle?

I figured it was going to end up being a special order truck. My Canadian buddy is linked up with some truck collector friends in Alberta that told us any other options aside, the K10 short bed with 4x4 in diesel was pretty uncommon/likely special order. He was very surprised to see all the convince and comfort options but no AC, I figure the truck very well couldve been originally ordered here in AK which would explain that.

The bed is really rough especially where the fenders were clearanced. I'd love to find a stepside, but that could prove difficult to find locally or incredibly expensive to ship.... definitely keeping my eyes open.

Yup, still the 700r4. Everything but the bed seems to be there.... If not working at the moment

I'm in the middle of restoring a loaded up '85 K10 Silverado, short bed, factory step side but with a 350 and 700R4 per the SPID. Having been watching them for the past couple of years,  4x4 step sides are rare and I have never seen a diesel one.

Everything is available new to build a step side bed from scratch except a passenger fender with a square gas door. A fender is available but without the gas door. I had to hammer weld my old one into the new aftermarket fender in order to keep both tanks.
