14 bolt axle swap questions
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:44:48 PM »
I got a questions for you all. I have an 85 K10 with a 12 bolt rear end and a 10 bolt front end. I just came across 2 frames from what the guy says are from 79 3/4 ton trucks (wants $300 for each frame). They both have 14 bolt full floaters and the one has a dana 44, the other a 10 bolt. My questions is, will these axles DIRECTLY mount up to my 1/2 ton frame with no modifactions to them, other than the U joint? I have searched around and from what I have read they should mount up, no questions asked AS LONG as they are from a 3/4 ton pickup, am I correct? Also I am pretty sure that these 14 bolts came with open differentials or a locker from the factroy. Question number 2 is, did they come with the Gov-Lok limited slip at all? Any info you guys can give me with be a big help.

p.s. yes it i know says "cehvy" in my name instead of "chevy", I must have just been typing to fast when I registered..

They will both swap in.  The 10bolt/Dana 44 is no different in 1/2 vs 3/4 vs 1T other than the lug pattern/outer hub.
I think the later ones came with a gov-loc, not really sure though.

With the 14 FF, check your spring perches and make sure they are the correct width. Axles will bolt and go. As far as lockers go, some 14FF came factory with Detroit Lockers in them. If not, you can pick one up new for about $425 and they are the cheapest of the detroit lockers.
