1975 4wd k30 carryall
« on: October 11, 2015, 10:52:53 PM »
well guys... new to the forum...

had a 2007 yukon, put 250k on it... got a 2011 suburban traded it @ 150k finally for a car (wife wanted it)
realized quick i like to pickup random shoot (pallets, furniture, whatever) and a car wasnt going to cut it
saw what i believe to be a deal on this truck... with a plow... loved the flat bed on it... wife's father in law
is very mechanically inclined.  they poured gas on the carb, charged battery, it turned on and he said it sounded
good (oldest vehicle ive ever owned is a 1995... so to me, it just sounded like every older car/truck)
brakes were locked on it, its a dually but was missing a dually tired, two fronts were flat.
bought it for $950 with plow.  towed it to his place for $30.  i know 0 about working on cars.....

took it to his place, took the dually side off, threw it up front because one of the tires was bad.  put in air,
he did whatever he had to do (i dont actually know?) to unlock the breaks... and she runs fine!  sounds loud
as heck.  today i popped in a front headlight and we cleaned off the rear lights(they had over spray of black)
and he grounded them (marker lights were working)

im the kind of person who doesnt like to buy stuff without reviews, he said i did good.  fun little truck i think!
going to hunt down some led clearance/marker lights this week.  he said for me to call the junk yard for a set
of rims for the dually... and so, the ideas begin!

was told by seller it was a 1971, someone else told me a 75, manual is a 78, title is a 77... so now im not sure what to believe but i guess going with the title makes the most sense.  father in law said its a k30 though.. thats all i know so far.

Welcome from Maryland. Can't tell from the pictures but there's a cab and chassis rear and it typically came without a bed and people/dealers would put flat beds or utility beds on them. They appear to be the width of a regular axles with bud wheels.

I got my led lights for my clearance lights off eBay. Paid $8 for 10 so I was able to put them in the other sockets that have 194 bulbs.
Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=201378192648&alt=web
But I got white LEDs thinking they would brighter and they are but they change the color of the clearance lights to a yellow/greenish color.

Also with LEDs if you don't know they only work one way so I put mine in with The lights on but I'm going to be swapping them with yellow ones soon as that's what's the people who sell the clearance lights sell with them

i bookmarked the link! thanks!  i was looking at these marker lights from china though her uncle said i need new connectors and grommets... he said might as well wire it up right and ill never have to do it again....

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-LED-Round-Reflector-Tail-Brake-Stop-Marker-Light-Indicator-Truck-Trailer-Car-New/2046764089.html

i need:
2x red 4in marker lights
2x white 4in marker lights
5x red 2in marker lights
2x yellow marker lights

theres some loose wires and lights there now are bad... rubbers rotten (when we removed to clean, its all dried out)

might be a dumb question but i called my local junk yard for rims... i need two more, they said $60/ea?  i understand tires arent interchangeable but dont they make a plate of somekind to make it more.... versatile?  rims+tires = 1/4 cost of truck = silly

Those rims should be pretty cheap never got some from the junk yard but someone should have some for cheap. You can pretty much use rims off anything if it has the 8 x 6.5 pattern, Ford changed up first in 98 (99 style) chevy was in 2011 and not sure if dodge ever did

the hunt has begun on Craigslist... I guess the father in law said the tires I have aren't meant to be on there... he says if I find a decent set of rims and get some new front tires (put what is on the front to the back) it will drive a world different

those are the correct style. dually wheels or bud wheels, judging by the picture that rear axles looks like its a cab and chassis if you put a reg wheel on it the tire will be sitting too far in

still looking for decent tires and rims... got a few messages out on ebay about better deals on market lights!

thinking about snagging this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/331353922608

truck doesnt have a rearview but sensors would be really nice!  and that dont seem to shabby for the price
