Mechanically, it will latch, and won't do anything naughty, except look bad from the driver's seat. (truck is an 87 V20, but the front clip was replaced at some time with an 84 unit) Fit is good everywhere, hood is not bent, and sits flush at the cowl. Adjusting the bumpers up or down doesn't change anything. Is the latch adjustable up and down? There is about a 1/2" gap above the grill, and I can physically push it down to where it needs to be.

You should take pictures of all and attach!

I know, I know... ;)

So it's resting on the core support?
Raise the grill?
-
Pics will explain it best JohnnyP, but no, it's not even contacting the bumpers unless I push on it. It's almost as if the springs? aren't pulling it down enough in front, but they do in the back edge. Sitting in the drivers seat, it looks like I didn't close the hood all the way.
-
Your rear hood mounts might actually need to be adjusted. The back of the rear mount may need to be raised and the front of the rear mount slightly lowered. A small adjustment can make a difference on the front and little difference at the rear of the hood.

if and when you get pics show us the latching mechanism pls.

Mike, I think I've heard that somewhere....Johnny, I just went through the older pics I have, and the dang hood looks almost perfect in them...I've got to gt some new ones apparently...

Is it possible that the hood could be bent/warped.
-
It could, I guess, it just fits so well everywhere else. Is there any way to fix this?
-
First find out if it is warped or bent, sometimes it is hard to tell by eyesight. Remove hood and place it on a known level flat surface and see how it looks.
-
I'm thinking try to adjust the rear mount on that side, as stated above. I bet a small adjustment would clear that up.
-
Thanks for the suggestions all.... 8)

Might be able to see if the front lip of hood is straight with a long level or straight stick/metal. Also check radiator support for even adjustment on both sides and measure the amount of fender rise on each side to see if it is the same. Or my earlier suggestion with the back hinge. I had to play with mine quite a bit to get it straight.

Those sorts of adjustment games frustrate the heck out of me...like strings of wadded-up Christmas light.... :-\

That is odd
dumb q but is the support post on the right too high?
If you push the right side down, does the left side pop up?
-
Excellent question JP!
-
No sir...
I read it somewhere, to put a 2x4 (or the like) on the other side, and push down on the offending side, which I did with no success at all, but I don't want to push it any further for fear of bending it.
Hood pins are looking better and better all the time.... :P
-
That's an old school way of getting sheet metal to cooperate
The way I see it, it couldn't hurt if it bends, it looks like it's bent already.
I would place the 2x4 or 6 on the left, and hang on the right side until it's even, poco a poco, you will probably divide the gap between both sides so look to drop the latch.
I think it comes up through the core top, maybe you can lower with washers and longer bolts.
-
The hood is only showing you the underlying issue. Let's see your door to cab and fender to door gaps.
-
Don't have any pics of those Vile, but they're all ok. Tailgate is jacked, but I'll take that on some other year. (needs all new pivots, etc...)
-
With just raising the bumper all the way out on the passenger's side, and lowering almost all the way on drivers, I've got it even now, but still too "open", so now it's time to figure out how to lower the latch. It needs to go about an 1/8-3/16-ish. Sorry that I'm moving so slow on this, I've been dealing with crap a/c compressors over and over. >:(
