Fuel Pump for a 383 Stroker & Fuel Shutoff Solenoid Valve
« on: April 18, 2024, 04:22:12 PM »
Would the OEM mechanical fuel pump work or would I need to het a HP Fuel Pump? I noticed the aftermarket fuel pumps do not come with a return line. Is the return line really needed? I would prefer to keep the mechanical, yet have thought about an inline electric pump. Any recommendations would be great.

I also would like to know if anyone has used a fuel shutoff valve solenoid 12VDC. I have noticed they are powered in the open position and no power in the closed position. I would like to put one in my system to enable me to shut of the fuel supply for security purposes. Any solenoid valve recommendations?

Perhaps we should have a topic for security options on our trucks.

I have a stock fuel pump without a return on a 383 stroker with a 750 holley vacuum secondary. Pump was putting out  about 9lbs. Had to put a pressure regulator on it to bring down to 6lbs. Everything works fine.

Do you have an electrical choke or a manual (mechanical) choke? I was debating if I should use the wire that goes to the Rochester QJet or put in a manual choke. I believe the 750 chokes have two wire connectors, a power and the other probably ground.

I was also planing on a fuel shutoff solenoid valve 12VDC and was wondering about a good durable one if anyone had used them. Would be a good way to block fuel flow when not in use.

As long as you have a healthy functioning fuel pump, stock is fine. It's fuel volume that is needed with carbureted systems and if you are exceeding what it can supply, you have other issues. If your plumbing is correct, when the engine stops, the fuel flow stops as long as you are right side up. If you are looking for a way to contain your fuel with a positive shut off or for racing regulations it may be needed otherwise I don't see why you would want or need it.

I was actually looking for a fuel shutoff valve for anti-theft purposes. Also want to come up with an electrical cut off and other anti theft measures. Years ago I put a lot into a car that was stolen and never recovered. Insurance did not come anywhere close to paying off my loss. Just want to prevent that from reoccurring.

You are better off with an alarm system that has a tracker, audible alarm and ignition system disable.

Reposting below comments in this thread because I somehow had created them in the wrong thread elsewhere (maybe I shouldn't surf the forums on my little phone screen).

Google search 12v electrical cut-off switches for anti-theft. Lots of options I think. They are a bit of a nuisance to use, but so is having your truck stolen.
Here is a handy one with remotes too. Maybe wire it into ignition.
