A/C Compressor Belt Removal
« on: May 14, 2021, 03:02:52 PM »
I have a 75 Scottsdale C30 Camper Special. After reading older posts about not removing my A/C,
I've decided I don't want the drag of a compressor that's NEVER used.
I'm figuring I can remove the belt only. Will this affect any other part?
I assume not because it is one belt to the A/C compressor only.
Thanks!

Take/cut it off, you'll be fine. I took it a step further and deleted everything AC-related under the hood last week.

What kind of drag do you think you have from the AC compressor pulley? When the clutch is disengaged it acts as an idler pulley. You also lose the ability to properly defrost and cool as well as keep the system healthy by cycling the compressor. Removing the belt gains nothing.

You'll 'gain' more from removing your big Gunther fan/clutch and going electric.

You aren't going to gain anything by removing the belt, or even the entire ac system. As stated above, just going to lose proper cooling and defrost function. Then, when you get tired of hacking up your truck and sell it to the next guy he will have to figure out how to fix/replace everything you monkeyed with. Just leave it alone, your engine can't tell it's even there.

Seriously, I feel like I gained 25-35 horsepower when I went with electric fan.

So why don't you use the A/C?
