1976 k20 fuel tank setup
« on: March 14, 2022, 10:23:40 PM »
Hey guys, I'm new here and I hope this is in the right section.
I recently purchased a k20 and the fuel system has some issues, it didn't even have a filler spout which I've since fixed but it looks like the previous owner bypassed the fuel tank valve and just run it straight to the passenger side tank. My question is should I replace the valve and fuel lines and mess with the wiring sor should I figure out a way to link the two tanks so if I fill one side it fills both tanks? I'm not to worried about being able to do that but just wanted a second opinion, thanks!

I'm leery of doing anything hinky to the fuel system except for short test situations. I would put it back to how it was before it got messed up (i.e. stock). I rescued mine from the tweakers and boy did they mess it up good. I have to redo the entire thing, switch, hard lines and all, so I understand your hesitancy. But it is 40ish + year old plastic & rubber, etc fuel line were dealing with and sub par, hack job stuff doesn't belong with it. Replace your rubber at the least. Safety paramount.

Why fill both tanks when only one is connected?

your unused tank may have a problem that is why it was deleted
ie. leaking, sending unit, rust, lines, etc.
