Steering column swap
« on: April 05, 2022, 10:32:57 AM »
Currently swapping out my non tilt column from my 1986 K10 Silverado for a tilt column from a 1984 C10 and it’s too short…what gives? I was under the impression that we could swap any column in with similar years.

They are the same, not sure the problem you are having.  I've changed dozens, never an issue.  Any pictures?

Well…it looks like I just needs to pull on the shaft…now it fits just fine.

The shaft is collapsible so the steering wheel wont go thru your chest when you have a front collision. It is very similar to the shaft from the bottom of the column to the steering gear. It is injected with plastic to keep the two pieces taunt and from rattling. It should be fine but could end up with a rattle under certain conditions.
