Running hot 454 c30

Helo Square body land, and thanks for all the info on fuel management. Just pulled 7000 lb. 5th wheel 700 miles with the dually. First time it's been more than 30 miles away from home after the NV-4500 swap. Just want to see kids and grand babies over the 4th and to work out any kinks with the truck. I haven't done anything with fuel management or gear reduction and brothers I had some kinks. I had to baby it to my destination. She ran hot up to 230 and did not want to start without a jump after refueling but didn't hurt anything. Had a pro check out pressure, timing and install a new 180 deg. thermostat and starter. Coming home she did fine until halfway there. Stopped to refuel, she was up to 220(per gauge) and new starter hung up after trying to start. Had to let her cool down and beat on the starter so it would stop spinning and engage. Is this normal running temp for a 454 pulling 7000lb.? And heater coil is bad and got 8 miles to the gallon. When it cools it starts find, and when not pulling temp stays around 190 deg. Thanks in advance for all the info and don't want to move forward until this issue is resolved. Again, thanks for your support.

May want to try cleaning your cooling system with a flush. Then if you have an automatic transmission and you are going to pull heavy loads, it might be good to have a transmission cooler. Your radiator may need to be replaced with one that has more cores if it is not in good shape or if it is a two core or less. You may also need to get a new fan if you have one of those with three or four blades to one with 6 or go with double electric fans. So bottom line is, ensure your cooling system is in good condition or increase the cooling capacity, pulling heavy loads are harder on the system.

I use a heavy duty fan clutch on my build. Spins with more engine percentage, and the larger surface area of the clutch increases the longevity of the clutch because of heat dissipation.  Stays cooler at stop lights.

Do you have the electric fan before the radiator?
