Heater operation question
« on: March 06, 2008, 02:21:59 PM »
I am looking into possibly swapping in a newer style A/C into a 79.  I want the electric controls so i can hide them easier.  I found the little blower motor deal and it looks like all that does is blow warm air in from the engine when the little kick panel door is open.  Is this corect or is there more to it than that.  I was hoping to keep the heater while i figure out my a/c swap.

Also can you have defrost without the a/c box in place?

I carry this from Dakota.  Looking at this myself.

It works with a Vintage Air GenII Conditioning, NOT the Sure-Fit system for the 73-86 trucks.  They have an oval version also.

The blower blows the hot air off the heater core into the vents for heat, it does all the air circulation in the system.
As for the AC, if you are just unhooking it the heater will still work, if you remove the box on the outside it won't be sealed so it won't work.

All i see is a red x?  I was thinking of using one of the kits that covers the holes in the engine bay and fits under the dash but I cant decide if I want to do that or just rip it all out and just use my windows.  I am trying to clean up the engine bay and make as little as possible going on in there.  But I have to take the A/C box thing out anyways as when I left this truck sitting for 7 years mice decided to live in there.  I got most of the nest out but There is mouse crap everywhere in there and my blower comes on with the key for some reason and it stinks!!  Just trying to figure out how to kill as few mice with one stone....so to speak.

Dakota changed their link...  I attached the pic...

The blower is supposed to come on when the truck is cranked.

So is that just a controller?  Will that work with a system that fits all under the dash.  I remember seeing somewhere a system that goes mostly under the dash.  There were a few hoses going out to the compressor through where the ?evaporator? was.  But the rest of the holes where plugged i think.  Trying to clean up that area a little.  Does that type of setup exist?  If so and that controller works with it That might be what I am looking for.  That piece looks about 4" by 6"?  Does it have a bracket or bezel it mounts in to, so as to make molding a little easier?

Yes that is just the controller, it goes with their GenII system and fits under the dash.  http://www.vintageair.com is the site.
