383 Stroker Engines
« on: December 18, 2005, 01:59:00 PM »
Hello I have been cruising around on this board as a guest for a while and finally signed up today. I have a 86 GMC 4x4 with a 350 engine and TH400 tranny and a 84 SWB Chevy with a 305 and TH700R Tranny.
I have a question I would like to ask.I would like to put a 383 stroker engine in my 86, but was wondering if it is possible to use the exsisting block, the block only has 2 bolt mains. The primary use of the truck would be  used as a daily driver with limited off road use and very little towing at this time.
Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Absatootely

A 383 is made from a 350 block, whether it be a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main--no matter.  Some would say a 2 bolt is just as good as a 4 bolt unless you're racing or something.  It'll be just fine.

Get yourself a 400 ci crank, balancer, and flywheel or flexplate. Add all the ingredients and bake at 383 degrees for a hundred thousand miles.

You can get the 383 stroker kits w/ pre-grinided connecting rods (PAW or Summit or jegs), just bore that block 30 over and put that joker together.

You'll have loads of torque.  You may need to replace your rear tire rubber quite frequently though.

Good Luck

yes. I agree with SgtDel the kits from Summit or Jeg,s are the way to go. I would also get  ARP main cap and rod bolt kits.
