carb issues
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:14:33 AM »
I recently put in a new carb 4 bbl Rochester in my 87 r-30 350 .  The problem I am having is that once I step on the throttle the RPM stay up unless I gun the pedal. i have gone in circles trying to figure out where the problem is. Any thoughts would be appreciated ;D

New as in a reman unit? Take a pic of your set up. Is the elec choke hooked up? Check the primary and secondary choke break and make sure when the engine starts the linkage moves. The vacuum hose should be connected to the carb and if you observe the linkage you can see where it aids in moving off of the step on the fast idle cam. It's not the choke coil's job to take it off of the fast idle cam. It's job is to open the choke flap and close it. As it's opening the linkage rod allows for actuation off of the fast idle cam and the choke break forces it off of the step as the choke flap opens. Play around with it and you will see how it works.
