Have you checked the ground on the lamps?

dont know about yours or our clearance lights but some lights ground them self with the screws or base. but since all the lights are out i done see there only being one ground i would think its the power, and since they are activated with the headlight switch/ parking lights then i would check that first then try to trace the power wire from the lights to the switch to see if there is 12v at both ends.

Okay, I pulled my 1979 GMC shop manual (close as I could get) and it shows the clearance lights as having a ground clip to the body under the light.

Later model trucks had a dedicated ground that ran back down the pillar, which if it was not grounding would make all the lights go out..

Presuming 1979 and 1980 were the same setup, the power wire is shown to route through the A-pillar and plug directly into the headlamp switch. The best that I could find is that the clearance lamp power wire is brown with a spade terminal to go into the top of the headlamp switch.  I don't see anything showing a fuse inline or otherwise for the clearance lamps.

If your park and tail lamps are working, then check the connection at the headlamp switch.  It may be the lead from the switch or the switch itself.

ill have to check i know the switch works just fine the wire might have not lined up right and got pushed out instead of going on the spade piece

ok i fell kind of dumb i went out to look today and pulled the plug off the light switch to find there was a terminal piece not having a wire hooked to it well evidently when i went to hook in the plug with my last light issue i guess the wire for the roof lights fell out the plug without me know and that is why i didnt have any clearance lights on the roof thanks guys for giving me the idea to look at my light switch so they are working great again

At least it was a simple fix and you didn't have to pull new wiring, etc.
