Which beds can be used on a '91 crew SRW conversion?
« on: September 24, 2013, 09:25:51 AM »
New here. I have a '91 k30 crew with a SRW conversion. I am wondering which beds will bolt on? Can I use a bed off of any longbed 73-87, or does it have to be a one ton? Will I need to drill new holes in the frame? I have dual tanks.

IF it isn't a cab and chassis then a long bed will work.  If it is a cab and chassis, you have to drill holes and it is wheelbase is longer.  Zieg85 just did this for a cab and chassis

Thanks. It had a long bed on it already, but it had at least 6 big holes and lots of dents. Was a dually bed, but the truck is now SRW. Picked up a very solid longbed from a upullit today. Pulled it off an early 80s half ton.

Verify your wheel base, in this case close is close enough.  Straighten the wheels and go center of hub front to center of hub back.  It should be 161.5" for a crew.  Any longer you probably have a cab and chassis and will have to really measure carefully and drill holes.  What bed did your truck have on it?  Is there any holes drilled on top?

Yes any longbed will work then.  If you don't get one for dual tanks the bump out for the floor is still there you just have to put a door on to make it factory.

Fuel fills are the biggest thing.

I think the break-outs are pre-'78 do not have a fill door...just a fuel cap on the side of the bed.  These are very annoying as they are VERY sensitive to fill nozzle design and shape and constantly puke fuel down the side of the bed and onto the paint.

'79-'86 have a fuel fill door with a specific metal fill neck and interface to the bed sides.

'87-'91 have yet another different fill neck design and interface to the bed sides (a '79-'86 fill neck will not bolt up to these bed sides and a '87-'91 fill neck will not bolt up to '79-'86 bed sides).

The internal brackets to the bed-sides that the fill necks bolt up to are bolted in, so you could change them out; or change out the fill necks.

If I am not entirely correct on the year break-overs, someone please correct me.
