OPINIONS ON THIS MOTOR COMBO?
« on: January 30, 2014, 01:28:25 PM »
I have an 85 C10 Custom Deluxe 2wd short bed.  Its been in the family for the last 16 years.  We were told by the previous owner that the truck had a recently rebuilt 350.  It has long tube headers with dual exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels.  It always ran ok with decent power on hand except its got a  carb that needs rebuidling and tuning.  Just blew a left bank head gasket back in October and decided to take the heads off.  It turns out thats its not a 350.  Block # 3782870 327 car/truck block from 1962.  Heads are #3973493; I believe SBC 400 ci heads out of 1970 truck motor.  Intake #14057055; I believe stock 305/350 intake.  Carb # 17085206; I believe stock Quadrajet carb.  I sent the heads out and had them machined, complete valve job, valves replaced, hardened seats installed, etc.  What do you think of this mut combo?  I'm looking to replace the intake when it goes back together.  What intake is recommended for this combo for a daily street driver and no smog equiptment?  I've been told Edelbrock 7101.   Opinion/Comments greatly appreciated thanks.

Block # 3782870 327 1962 -65 (small journal)
Heads are #3973493; 1972-76 400.
Intake #14057055; this is a Target motor intake
Carb # 17085206; 1985-87 Quadrajet

Assuming stock any dual plane will be fine, what is your goals though...

Probably 76cc. I think most performance guys will tell you to stay away from the 400 heads- they are poor flowing and were prone to crack because they run hot and pretty much make the 327 a dog. They weren't known to make good compression.  Better performance for the 327 comes from the late nineties vortec heads from the 350 engines.
