Title: Coil spring install
Post by: psyborgg on March 28, 2017, 11:21:27 PM
I have a 1986 c20. I had no problem removing the spring.I just jacked up the lower control arm and removed the knuckle. The problem is I am unable to install the new springs without compressing it a least enough to get the spring started. I can't find a spring compressor that will fit the heavy duty spring. Any insights?

Try reconnecting the knuckle and lower ball joint and disconnecting the lower arm at the frame end.  Insert spring into pocket and jack up the frame end of the control arm to compress the spring and reattach.

I just finished installing new springs on my C20 1977 and used a spring compressor / you can rent one from O Reilly's auto parts.
 made the job easier.

That spring compressor will not fit the springs I got from rockauto. I have tried two types! I will get one of the old springs tomorrow to see if they are the same size ( I'm fairly certain they are).

Does anyone know where I might find something like the old MAC tool. A neighbor of mine designed and built them for MAC.

Are you trying to install it as Da67goatman suggested?
