Title: Extended cab squarebody trucks
Post by: zieg85 on January 13, 2021, 11:20:53 AM
A little history behind these trucks as I understand it.  Dodge and Ford offered extended cabs in the 70's while GM didn't offer it until the 1988 and newer body style.  CVI was one company that offered this conversion as well as extended crew cabs.  The base conversion was a $6K option and went up based on paint and interior options.  CVI out sourced the fancier versions with plush interiors and special paint beyond stock.  There were other companies that offered this conversion as well.  Other rear windows were smaller or opted for none.  These conversions was authorized by GM and came with the full factory warranty.  The conversions were done to long bed trucks by taking 18 inches out of the front of the bed.  The floor was reused as the extended cab floor, the bed pieces was moved to the cab and it was filled in.  Most common found were 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive top of the line Silverado but I've seen Scottsdale and even my Custom Deluxe bare bones truck.  Production numbers have not been verified as the CVI doesn't exist.  I'd love to see as many as possible here.  Pictured is my 1985 C30, a CVI conversion to a Custom Deluxe base model radio delete truck

She's a beauty! I have bucket seat envy now...

What did you have to part with to get her, if you don't mind me asking?

B.A.T. Auction had a 1978 K10 sell for 33K last week.

Speaking of bucket seats, does anyone have a set they would part with? The '80 has a bench that I would have to redo, but would love to switch out to buckets.

So I haven’t traded yet due in part to my “better half” but trading a 2001 GMC Yukon that is super clean for what it is but it also has 240K. I also looked for the CVI plate which by reading previous post it should be on the passenger side but there wasn’t one. This was the only tag that didn’t look factory.

I know I’m talking to a partial group but good deal or no? It does have rust around the door frames from where they probably did the conversion but no fender or bed wheel wells rust. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220123/7eb29450497976f5ce3d29073f3e4bf8.jpg)

Going on book values the 2001 is worth more if in good shape.  Extended cab is extremely rare to begin with but made from a C30 dual rear wheels makes it very unique.  The yellow one is the only known SRW C30.  I have only seen a couple C30 DRW single cab conversions.  I really like it.

On one hand this modification seems too finicky/particular.  But on the other hand i think it's a really good idea;  This is great if you need a little more space than just the single cab, but the crew cab just seems too long.   With this extended cab, the whole truck still stays "short."
