The following assumes you've upgraded to a serpentine belt for the
CS144.
The Advanced Design
AD244 Triple Rectifier alternator is more bang for the buck than the CS144... and it's stock GM just like the CS144 so you can go to any parts store and buy one.
You can't use the 2006+ two terminal AD series regulator without an ECM to control it but it can be easily changed to the 1999-2005 four terminal AD series regulator for use on older analog vehicles.
You MUST use an SI harness conversion pigtail with a resistor in the sense lead to the L terminal on the AD series alternator straight 12v will burn out the regulator.
The SI to 4 terminal CS/AD resistor pigtail part #s are... AC Delco 8078, GM 12102921, Napa
EC82 $21.50 or Duralast
792 $16.99
Both the CS144 & AD244 will need a slightly longer belt than the serpentine
CS130D or serpentine 12SI. Rumors say @ 1"... YMMV.
The AD alternators are much tougher than the SI and CS series and they're bloody easy to work on.
