Parking Brake Problem
« on: September 24, 2022, 02:43:47 PM »
Hey guys :) I hope everybody has been doing well. Im having some problems with my parking brake. My truck is a 74 stepside. A while back I went to put on my parking brake. I did it to hard I believe. Tbh It was a long time ago so Im not so sure if the pedal stuck down at the time or if it just stopped having the clicking locking feeling and popped right back up at that time. At this point when I push down on the parking brake pedal there is just no resistance or click into place. It just springs back up and wont lock down. Any ideas what the problem could be or where I can start to try and troubleshoot it. Thanks for your time.

The PB has teeth that latch in the mechanism and is released by the handle. It is easy to figure out. Trace you brake handle cable to the parking brake assy. It attaches to the firewall with two nuts. You can remove and replace it if it cannot be repaired. It might just be a spring that makes the latch that catches the teeth broke. Could be a simple fix. I attached a pic I found!

Push the release handle forward toward the firewall while you have the pedal pressed down.

See if it engages and locks the pedal.
