Title: need critique help
Post by: 07montecarlo on June 20, 2009, 04:14:34 AM
can someone shed light on my gear pattern, is it acceptable? looks ok to me but it was to easy, used stock shims and used .029 shim for pinion as start and the stock carrier shims are both the same size at each end and only one per side (thick)

It's acceptable. If you wanted a dead nuts ideal pattern you would want to move the pinion closer to the ring gear and move the carrier away from the pinion. With .008" backlash if you don't have any decel noise or vibrations I would leave it alone because it's still an acceptable pattern. Good for you for checking though. Most guys just slap it in and chew it up.

Don't complain about too easy, it doesn't happen very often. ;)

Looks good, what did you end up doing? Did you measure your pinion bearing preload before you installed the carrier?

yes and no, might get flamed but did preload by "feel",hit crush sleeve then a bit of resistance..same feel i had with my chevelle never had issues, but i will check it after a bit..
