Title: Lets see your 73-87 LS swap!
Post by: MANCHU1-9IN on February 04, 2014, 12:47:22 PM
To give this section a proverbial kick in the pants, lets see some pictures of what you are working on. Be it complete, incomplete or simply in the planning phase, lets see your pics and hear your plans.

1985 K10 Silverado

Engine:
LM7 5.3l
799 heads untouched
Isky cam 206/212 112+2.5
all supporting mods for cam
Headers to come eventually
BPAutomotive wire harness

Trans/T-case:
2003 4l80E stock
NP208 that needs input shaft swap and refresh

Fuel system:
original dual 16 gal tanks
87 sending units
AC EP381 in-tank pumps
87 switch for tanks
Pollak switching valve
SS braided -8AN feed lines
SS braided -6AN return
All Russell fittings/filters

I still have tons of work to do to get this truck rolling again, but I have had an absolute blast getting this far. Once I find an adapter for the 4l80 to NP208, (that isn't a million bucks) everything will be bolted up in its final resting place. I still have the wiring and fuel to conquer, but I plan to have it running before my first born gets here in June.

Please excuse the messy garage, I typically keep it much more clean and organized.

Plans are to get the new sending unit and 430lph pump in place and shoot for more power.  It is running out of fuel right now.  Swap in the new limited slip 3.42 rearend and finish up the interior.  Still driving it like it is though.

Those Impalla SS wheels look perfect on that truck. I have 2 Garrett turbos in my garage that have been collecting dust for several years, so I may have to copy your build one of these days lol

Come on guys/gals I know we have more swaps. If you have a build thread and don't feel like typing everything up, a link to the thread is cool too.

Thinking of getting a LS3 525hp with 4L70E connect n cruise.  How much hp are you making capt.?

I am making 450hp/500lb/ft at the rear tire on a pump that didn't feed enough fuel and 8lbs of boost.   Since then I have swapped to a bigger pump (255lph to 430) limited slip, 3.42 gears and upgraded the turbos.
I was going to cap it at 550hp, but who knows now...  It will be enough to allow the motor to live as it is stock, until I get the other motor built to handle more.

I love this! What are the specs on the turbo's? Scavenge pump on each?

Once again, killer truck.

They are T3/T4 Hybrids were ball bearing now journal (don't ask) it was a .48AR with 54 trim, now it is a 60 trim, I believe.
I was so upset when the ball bearing setup bit the dust that I just took it to a buddy told him what I wanted and he built it for support to 490hp per
They were STS turbos but not it is just the turbine side...  It has 2 scavenge pumps on each of the framerails.

We are looking at replacing the tired 350 in my sons 77 K-10
With a good used engine and oddly enough the LS engines are cheaper than vortecs or normal old 350s

We can get a 5.3 with harness and computer , fan to starter , still in the truck so we can hear it run for $700
4.8s are $500 for everything

Only thing is the AC adapter mounting plates will be $250.  New AC comp $250
Motor mounts $200, new flywheel and clutch $250. Computer reflash $150

We swapped the SM 465 for a NV3500 out of s 2007 Silverado last year
Should a grabbed the 4.8 too but didn't think we'd need one so soon

you can actually get the flash done for half the price from Brian at lt1swap.com.  roughly $75 and hat includes return shipping. He did mine and I got it back in 5days. Also the site walks you through modifying the harness which will save a lot of $$$

i did the harness when I swapped a 1990 mustang engine into my 74 Bronco and when I swapped TBI in the K-10

In the bronco I was in a hurry since it was my daily driver at the time and I didn't remove the extra wires
I just folded em up and taped em under the loom

On the TBI we removed the extra wires

1984 C10 'Custom Deluxe'

all iron lq4, eddy 2215 cam, eddy dual plane, holley 670, ls6 valve springs, cam and main/rod bearings, rocker arm tunnion upgrade, basically rebuilt stock heads, new valves and such, melling high volume oil pump, steam vent ported to drilled hole in waterpump, got new pistons after first start of this motor that ran for few miles spun a rod bearing or 2...currently running..haven't taken to dyno but im at (MSD 6010) 30* all in timing around 2000rpm...idle at 22*.. has 2000rpm stall converter with 700r4 built trans and 3.73 gear, front end rebuilt from the dust cap to the bushings..need stabilizer bar...new clambshell mounts with dirty dingo slider mounts..new alt, PS, WP...2/4 drop, well working on the other 2" n the back..need to install hangers (being lazy)...interior was done about 3 years ago..probably could use some reconditioning...trying to think of more..had this truck for about 4 years.. I run 10w30 VR1... a lot of time and effort.as you guys would know...pretty sure there are a lot of things I cant think of right now but its coming together..  future plans include Caltracs, TrueTrac, 20x8/10 wheels, not sure on paint color (was already painted burnt orange when I bought it), maybe change cam to more aggressive..

not sure if this picture thing will work but here it goes...

LSX, look good... What gauges do you have in the dash? Also what header/manifold do you have?
Title: Re: Lets see your 73-87 LS swap!

Manchu, made any progress on the build. I'm especially curious about headers or manifold selection as well as the 4L80 to N208 adapter... Did you ever settle on one? I plan on having the same drive train when I get my hands on a 4l80 to put behind this 6.0...
 Currently, 6.0L LQ4 from 03 Denali
Dirty Ding mount
Pots Per. Dbc throttle body for the 700r4

Plans: 4l80E, cam, headers and in time twin hair driers!! Can't wait.

thanks Froto.. still so much to do and clean up...

What gauges do you have in the dash?

six pc gauge set from ebay..led lighting..came with the senders..bought these about 3 years ago..

Also what header/manifold do you have?

Schoenfeld Headers  1302LS1  fit perfect with no mod, really close on passenger side frame rail but not touching.. painted them with ceramic header paint about 6 mos ago..

At first they looked like shorties but now more like mid possibly long tube. Can you post a pic of how far the collector comes down the frame and possibly a measurement from the wheel well?

Just looked them up and a review posted an '87 K5 swap with no issues so I'd imagine my 4x4 set up would be close if not identical...?

I will take more pics when I get home... im not sure where your tcase comes into play on the front.. only issue I had was the original bung hole for the AF sensor was in line with gear selector..had to move bung hole back a few inches.. the 1302LS1 are full length long tubes...love the sound at high rpm...

Anyone else have to move the transmission forward ?

We pulled the 350 and the LS hits the firewall about an inch and a half before it hits the bell housing

the mounts i used put the rear of the ls in the same spot as the sbc, had to move the both the 4l70e and nv4500 forward about 1-2" from where the th400 was at. but easily had enough room to pull and install both trans with no problems with the motor mounted
