Overdrive Question
« on: July 08, 2022, 11:29:27 AM »
I'm running a 350 engine in front of my ht350 tranny in my K20/K10 and was wondering if anyone has used an overdrive unit with the HT350? If so how strong are the overdrive units?

Are you talking about an aftermarket Overdrive unit?  The Gear Vendor version is plenty strong, but by the time you buy one, you could swap to a 700R4 for cheaper IMO.

G.V. is way over priced!

I had a quote to change out my TH350 with a 700r for 1800.00

Yeah, it looks like a crate 700r tranny from a reputable company would cost about the same as an overdrive unit.

What about a salvage yard?

3-4 K? That's what Gear Vendor ran last time I checked... ::)

 Ok, maybe a little LESS than an overdrive unit.

I own the Heavy Hauler 4l60e powered by a US Shift Quick 4.

Hands down the best 4l60e I have ever owned.

I've thought about a salvaged 700r but I don't have any decent tranny places around here. I don't trust a chain store to do it right.

You don't want a salvage yard 700.. it'll likely be halfway crapped out, and then you'll spend a crap ton on a rebuild.

Get one for the right price at a salvage yard to get rebuilt. That is the rout I would go. Unless you can do internet searches to find one.

Better be a super cheap junkyard...Oringinal internal upgrades needed to last long purchased at a shop will probably cost too much. Won't they mark up the upgrades? I think buying one with the necessary upgrades is best...
