87 305 plug and manifold replacement
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:26:32 PM »
hey  guys-
i have an 87 305 and would like to do a tuneup and possibly install headers. the manifold bolts and the plug base look a little rusty. what is the likelyhood that i will encounter plug / bolt snap off issues. i plan to soak everything with blaster before hand. any tips?

thanks

just keep that can of blaster handy is all i can say! when i put headers on mine i lucked out and the po had the manifolds off before so everything came apart easy, but ive broken off many bolts in the heads of motors b4 removing the manifolds. so BECAREFUL!!! and go slow!

it helps to have the bolts/engine warm when removing bolts.  I'd run the engine for 15 minutes.  Get some mechanic's gloves and then start removing when the engine is warm
