Research Jackpot for my 84 K-1500 restore
« on: September 17, 2010, 07:50:59 AM »
I'm a bit of a details oriented OCD type. I didn't want to have to guess what my truck looked like before someone shot it all blue, I wanted to KNOW what it was supposed to look like so we could return it to the way it left the factory. Well yesterday I finally found a factory illustration of exactly what my build sheet proves the truck once was.  My buildsheet says ZY5 Exterior Decor Package and has 2 colors blue and silver. Here is the picture of that exact same option code straight from the original GMC brochure. This should be the perfect reference for my body man once we move from sheet metal to paint. I just can't wait to get my truck back!

Are you planning on turning back into all original ?  If so that would be awesome, it would really stand out.

Original to every detail possible. Really that shouldn't be too hard.  The only items on the truck that have been changed is the cat has been removed, it was sprayed solid blue over the old 2 tone blue / silver, and the original vinyl seat has been recovered with cloth.  I will replace the cat, the paint is going back to original specs, so the only thing I have left is the seat cover which I may have to keep since vinyl would be hot has heck here in the summer.

My '83 has that same color scheme 29/17.  Its very common.  There have been several trucks on here with the same.
