Title: Ls motor
Post by: 1979C20 on May 11, 2012, 02:16:15 PM
Im looking into an ls swap, but I have a quick question. I want to keep my SM465, so what would I have to do for the VSS? I was told I have to have a VSS for the computer, but I have a manual cable speedo.

I have been told by several people that using an auto trans like a 350 or 400 behind an LS engine requires only a spacer for the flywheel. Not sure about the standard trannies though. Try here- http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=206

Have you done any searching on the LS1 Truck site? It might be your best reference.

Are you changing out all of your gauges to the electronic speedo? you can use a VSS sender.

I guess I could put an electric speedo on it. I dont even use my speedo aince its off by like 15mph, I use my gps for speed. So, does the vss sender replace the cable sender? Is it gear driven from in the tailhousing or is it cable driven from where the speedo.cable screws in?

Depends on which way you go.  Most swap to the 89-91 speedo.
