My 80' C10
« on: November 13, 2009, 03:14:38 PM »
Hi Guy's..well its been a while since i posted anything up on here since owning the k5,sadly i had to sell it due to my deep pockets becoming shorter but im back with a new truck.
Spotted a clean looking 1980' C10, 350 2wd on autotrader and thought 'yes' i want it.
So we trooped over this morning and have a good look over it.Luckily for us the guy is a sheet metal worker so everything that i thought i'd be welding has already been done to a good standard,he handmade the outer rocker panels and they look stock..engine is a gem running on LPG breathing through a holley 600 and exiting through duals out back.
I'm the 2nd civilian owner as the truck has been on a military base since new when it was brought over to the UK...its good to be back behind the wheel of a chevy.. ;D

1980' C10 teardown and build up.

Well the snow finally left so i got the chance to start tearing down the c10,i never planned this (we never do) but after running it for a while certain things just niggled at my brain and it did look untidy so i decided to tear it down to the frame and build it back up replacing what ever it needed and putting previous owners hack jobs right along the way.
I like this truck as every nut & bolt is coming off without breaking off so its half the battle won already.First to come off was the front end,but then the snow came down again so work stopped as i dont have anywhere to keep the truck as of yet.Roll on a couple of weeks and work starts again.Went out yesterday and started pulling down the bed and i have to say this truck being nigh on 30 year old is still in nice condition, dented maybe but solid enough to warrant the work... :)

Thanks... ;D

Got some more removed today,(Gonna need a bigger shed)the panel directly behind the cab has seen better days and i think its gonna have to be junked for a better item..its banana shaped and battered to heck.
Also got access to the 2 LPG tanks fitted to the frame, these also are being junked as i'm not a fan of it and i've seen valves peened over on their seat face due to running it...also i need the space where the reserve tank is to fit my alloy tank..never noticed the 12 bolt rear either...must have been asleep when i looked the truck over.. ;D

Finally got some replacement panels through today, would like to have bought them via the site but with Chris not yet shipping overseas... ;) i had to buy from germany of all places.
Quality seems ok for (sherman...made in Taiwan..?) but how they gonna fit, full rocker and extended cab corners..any horror stories.

Very nice! I like the original blue color. Are you going to keep it that color?

Set to work on the cab this morning, mostly stripped out and its not as bad as i first thought,so once that was done i set about doing some welding to the hood as the rot had gotten hold of the front leading edge in not just 1 corner but all the way across...finally finished it at 8 tonight, had to remake the support panel for the latch also as it was rotted out...forgot how much i hate welding.. ;D...then i took a closer look at the core support, the last pic, and thanks to my 3 yr old son for playing with the camera dates and making me think im going backward on the project ;D

Are those LPG tanks? I never saw cylindrical gas tanks.
