New bed for an old truck
« on: April 14, 2014, 01:38:20 PM »
Getting somewhere !
I have my new 1977 bed ready to replace my 73's rusty bed.
Had to figure out my paint color [ no glove box sticker ] Turns out it's not Spanish Gold PPG 2323.
It's Sunset Gold PPG 2535 and it's way faded.
Going to get a friend to paint the box and back of the cab. Then do the front of the truck asap.

I hate rust ! Going to use a lot of POR 15.

Hope what ever you are working on ? Your getting somewhere with it

You say you have the 77 bed, I assume it is not all painted yet, you still have to finish it ?

Got to shoot the bed fenders and the header this week. Going to bedline the bed and under coat it to.
In all of the panels where its hard to shoot paint POR 15.

I paid $500 for my parts truck, got a lot of stuff I'm going to keep and sold about $150 off of it so far.
Still have a useable bed doors and odds and ends.
Got a friend who wants to trade me a utilitie box off a 68 for my bed.
I may do it.

Sometimes a parts truck is the only way to go. I should make back most of the $500. and still have goodies for myself.

I have done that so many times in my life I lost count, this last one I got for $400.00 and already made $600 off the truck and still have the cab and bed which is not rusted, just needs some body work done.
Now if only I could get my wife to understand.   ::)  She does keep me from having a wrecking type yard of old chevy trucks. ;D

If I had the room I would be on that Car Hourd TV show !
I have friends with 20 cars and get them to hold one or two of mine.

I got my bed on today. BUT it was sprung. The front of the bed finders are sprung up.
Wile the floor of the bed is flat on the frame the drivers side body line is 3/4 too high and the passender side is a little under 1/ 2 inch too high.

I think the best way to fix it to shim the back of the cab up tell the body lines are the same ?

So be careful when you pull your beds off.
