Believe that valve cover should be on the other side.

The valve cover on the right needs to be flipped around. The PCV Valve hole (driver Side) should be towards the front. The left (PS) one is OK.

I guess the idea is to be able to read 'CHEVROLET' from each fender.

Mike I tried flipping it the way you said but for some reason it gets caught on the rocker arms  so I could only do it that way

GM spent good money designing oil seperators into the stock valve covers. The stock covers are not pretty, but quite functional. They also have a place to add oil into your engine, unlike those pretty covers, just saying. Also try a rag or blue painter's tape to keep anything from getting into those intake passages or manifold while the top end is apart.

Have you tried the swaping the two valve covers to the opposit sides? Look inside to see if there is an oil separator, they might be made for left and right side. The PCV valve should be at the front on the drivers side (not the back side of engine) and it appears swapping them to the other side might work.

Guys I’m back!!!!!!!! So like I said my plan is to give  this truck some life the engine bay and engine it self are so dirty. I’ve been working on the truck just haven’t had time to post.I’m doing a top end rebuild somewhat. I’m going to replace the lifters and install a mild camshaft, and install a new timing chain while I’m there.

Looking good, so much easier to clean and upgrade out of the engine bay.
Quick tip, when you hoist that thing up again, put the largest washers you have at the end of the bolts in the heads, put some strain on it (don't lift it off the ground) then tighten the lifting bolts. It will be a rough day if that hook slips off the head of that tiny bolt. Keep up the good work.

Now that I have it out and on a stand I’m going to clean it to get it ready so I can eventually paint it. I’ve done some reading online about using stove top cleaner for getting the funk off of these old engines. It’s working pretty good I’m just going to let it soak and then clean it off and see what we got let’s to wire brush off.

After removing the stove top cleaner from the engine it got most of the dirt and grime off the engine. I then proceeded to attack whatever was left with a gang of wire brushes and wire wheel attachments . Denatured Alcohol and wire brushes really got the engine pretty clean after a couple hours. Compared to the previous post I believe we’re headed in the right direction
