My 86 K-10 resto project done!
« on: August 25, 2007, 10:07:20 PM »
Although I have posted a few pics of my truck before, it wasn't truely finished like it is now.  I finished it up about a month ago but I've been so busy I haven't really had any chance to put up some good pics yet.

I will try to get some of the interior too, that was completely redone as well with a custom gauge cluster with a full compliment of auto meter guages.

I like the way it turned out, but it still sits too low on those 33's!  Next plans include an 8" Superlift with some 38" boggers.  Gonna drive it like this for a while though, and put a 400 small block in it this winter.

Here's the before pics:

Here's a few shots I took recently.

Thanks guys!   ;D   Kudos from this crew means a lot!   Yea, I wanted to keep a nice clean look about it without too much fuss.  Wanted to keep much of the factory look too.  I have a black double tube roll bar that will be going in the back with some KC highlights too once it is lifted.

It's real basic, no power options or anything, partially because I wanted to keep it where I can sink this thing in mud and then hose out the interior if I want!

Boy did we succeed a few weeks ago too.  It was hilarous (not so much at the time however) I buried it clear up over the axles and had to get pulled out by ...ahem..  A FORD!!   LOL

I have pics of the mudding incident too, I will have to get them up as well.

The tires are Pro Comp All Terrain 33 12.50's.

But the front right rubs if I turn too much in reverse for some crazy reason.  Otherwise its all good, I am just careful not to compress the suspension with the wheels turned too much.

Sweet ride! Did you paint it yourself? It's nice when you can see your reflection in black!

Yep!  My first paint job, and what a... HORRIBLE idea to try black for my first shot!  I had everything all ready,  a Sharpe Platinum paint gun and PPG paint but little did I know about shooting paint.  Everything had to be re-sanded with 400 grit and shot again a second time where I was less "trigger happy".

It's just a single stage paint job, but I learned a -_- lot.  I will eventually refinish it with a clearcoat paint job.  God knows theres like a jillion hours into this finish though, with all the wetsanding and buffing, I am pretty happy with it for now.  This is a 10 year project finally come to a close,  minus the driveline, but that's the easy part!

There's a pile of photos on my photobucket album and geocitty site too...

Believe it or not, this is actually the end of a 10 year project.  I bought this thing off the side of the road thinking it would be a quick fix up and oh yea it will be like I want it soon..  Uh, NAH..   ;D

It has actually spent more of its time since I have owned it looking all multi colored like in some of the pics above.  It was a real eyesore I tell ya!

So 10 years later and having replaced 2 doors, bed, 1 fender, the hood and nearly all the exterior parts and interior it is done as far as bodywork.

The rest will be the fun part to me, because mechanical is more where my experience is.  Bodyworking was new to me so I think that's part of the reason why it was such a drawn out ordeal.  (Well that and lack of money of course!)

So I went to a get together yesterday put on by a guy who owns a local speed shop here in Stevens Point, (furoracing.com)  and the usual motor talk and such got me riled up and realizing that I am a fool if I don't put my motor from my Camaro into the truck now.  (I have started parting my old IROC out)  I was going to wait and put it in with the TPI setup, but ah heck why wait I am just going to slap it in there now with a different carb and intake.  I hardly ever ran it when it was in the Camaro, so now its time for this motor to breathe life into the K-10!   I am going to experiment with a few different intakes and carb setups first since my coworker has a dyno and we'll run some good pulls first after I get it put together.   It will hopefully be like night and day compared to the tired crappy old 305 in it now!

-4 bolt main
-Steel crank
-H beam rods
-Forged pistons
-AFR 190 heads with 58cc chambers
-Roller rockers and cam
-Streetdampr harmonic balancer

Here's a peek, she's still mint after sitting in a bag for the last 5 or 6 years!
