My 85 project begins...
« on: January 29, 2011, 07:50:12 PM »
This truck belonged to my grandfather since bought new in 84.  He passed on a few years ago and the truck has been in limbo between family, and has finally been acquired by me.  Lots of changes coming with this one, including LS power and a manual tranny.  I'll start my own build thread once things get underway, but for now some pics of her safe at home:

That looks like a great platform to build on! I think you will have a very nice Truck when finished.

It is always nice to hear about someone getting a family truck.

Got her up and running yesterday.  Two gallons of fresh gas and a battery and she fired up after a couple minutes of priming.  Smoked like a freight train initially but had good oil pressure and no knocks.  This is the first time it has been started in several years, and I was very impressed  :o.  I knew there was a reason I like GM's  ;D.  Now for the bad news:  she has only one functional gear, and that's reverse.  No matter, the 4bbl 305 and TH350 are getting pulled soon.  I'll be sanding and sealing rusty spots for the next week or three until my funds are up.  Took the wheel arch trim off today, and the paint underneath looks new!  I now know what unmolested Midnight Black from 1984 looks like.  Should have a video of it running on youtube shortly.

Sounds great, hopefully you get the funds soon to start rebuilding.
