wow, i can't compare to some of the trucks in this thread, but here is my current '83 Sierra and my former '78 K20.

'78 K20, was a K10, installed 14B FF with 4.10 gears and a D44 with 8-lug outers...had a 454 and an SM465 backed by a NP205...

packed up and ready for my move to Ft. Hood, Texas...yep, i drove that 454-powered beast of a truck the WHOLE way...center of clutch disc ripped out 30 miles from destination...i laughed my @$$ off...especially when a new clutch kit only cost me $90 and took me 2 hours to put in...ahh i miss her!

and my '83 Sierra...yea, she's stock, and only has 77k original miles.  i'm the 3rd owner.  there's a lot of plans in the works for her and i plan on keeping her around long enough for all of them to happen...first phase of the plan, the 305 is GONE.  350 is in the shop, going in right after XMas...

when i first got her...the toolbox had a "see-through" floor, and the headache rack was right behind it...factory AM/FM Cassette Stereo was in the toolbox...i still have it, but it has a Sony CD player in it...still has the factory harness on the radio...i assume it works...

and this is now, after some "junk removal"

this truck has had an interesting story since i've had it.  this truck seems to be "self healing"...let me explain...

i bought it from the 2nd owner with 71k original miles (documented).  truck would hardly move out of it's OWN way...could barely hold 55 on the freeway...i tried everything i could think of...ran a compression test, replaced fuel filter, ran seafoam through it, did a FULL tune-up, re-adjusted timing...nothing really did much...

one day i was working on the carburetor, replacing the base gasket and generally cleaning the carb...my idiot neighbor manages to drop something down the intake...doesn't tell me (i don't really think he knew...), i fire it up...it stalls...fire it up again to this...KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.  after a bunch of cursing, i put the truck on the street and park it...3 weeks later i fire it up to move it (didn't worry about the motor, figured at this point it was garbage anyhow) and i let it run for a bit..."am i going deaf?" i thought...as the knock got quieter and quieter...until it was gone.  that was about 5k miles ago...no signs that it ever HAD a rod knock (and trust me, i have a lot of mechanic friends as well as I'm a mechanic...THAT WAS A BAD KNOCK.)

then, about a few weeks later, it developed a BAD fuel leak from the carb (i had to keep driving it, had no way to work).  about 3 weeks later...i notice that it suddenly seems to be running great (it hadn't wanted to idle, ran like crap throughout the RPM range) so i pop the hood...NO fuel leak...same carb, 4k later, still no fuel leaks whatsoever...

after that the transmission (700R4) started acting up BAD.  started off in 2nd gear most the time, shifted at really high rpm and really firm, then sometimes acting like it was barely gonna shift at all...i checked everything and it seemed like a healthy tranny...so i came to the conclusion my TV was stuck (or my spring was broken)...when i got out of the Army i couldn't bring the truck with me right away, so it sat at a friend's house for about 2 months...went to get it, dreading the 6 hour trip (it had been averaging 4-6 MPG, had no power and shifting as i said above).  fired it up, filled it with gas, and hit the freeway...to my AMAZEMENT it maintained 70-85 the whole way and even not using OD (i had locked it out for power reasons) it still got 13.6 MPG!  ever since i got it up here and started driving it daily, it NEVER starts in 2nd anymore, shifts GREAT and has maintained its decent power and it now gets between 13-15 MPG.  its had a best (that i've noticed) of 16 MPG with the A/C blasting.

so like i said, i think i got a pretty special truck...:)
