01-07 Duramax rims - hubcap options?
« on: January 02, 2016, 02:25:36 PM »
I just installed a set of the Duramax rims and a set of 285/75/16 tires, and as expected, have the hubcap delema.
The lugs are different thread than mine, so no go there.
As far as I know, there's no 9/16-18 lug nut with the threads for these caps.

These are hub centric and lug centric wheels, hub caps from the back will not work.
This leaves only lug based caps.

I have spotted a few options;
03-14 Ram Dually's have an aftermarket, dog dish style hub cap cover available. No logos, completely smooth
03-13 non-dually Ram - Aftermarket is available with no logo
Aftermarket caps - Harder to find the right fit, more expensive, usually have logos

Personally, I think the dish style is neat, though the regular Ram style is nice as well. Both lock onto the lug nuts with clips that are on the caps.

There are conversion lug nuts that will accept the newer style center cap's plastic nuts.  They are around $.80 a piece on eBay.

I was actually just checking that one out.
Any idea if they are decent quality? That's very cheap for lug nuts, especially double threaded ones.
Also, how would the caps look with a hole added for my hubs? Never seen them on a truck with hubs

Quality, I have bought 3 sets from different vendors, no problem.  I have '06 rims on my 85 extended cab.  Not sure of the Duramax rims you are talking about but if they are the 8x6.5 pattern they will work fine offset wise.  GM changed the pattern 2011 (I think) Google it for sure.  The rims have the bolt pattern stamped on them...

Glad to hear that, I'll probably buy those and go with it, I need new lug nuts anyways.
What I meant was; I have never seen the center caps on a truck that had actual hubs, to where you needed to cut a hole in the cap to make it work. Would it look goofy, or what?

Nice extended cab, by the way. There is one near me that has been sitting at a shop, untouched, for 4+ years. 1/2 ton, 2wd. Hoping to stop by some day and try to buy it.

On the front for the lock outs, no.  Rear with Full Float rear ends the caps fit over fine

I'm trying to find a set of these rims for the right price for my truck. I'm going use 07+ plus wheel caps, not the 01-07 caps. So instead of like the yellow truck, when done they will look like this.

I could be wrong but I thought the lug nuts would thread onto the studs no problem. Guess I'll need lug nuts too, no big deal. Zieg, the lug pattern changed in 2010-2011.

I'm debating if I should do the 01-07 standard caps front and rear, with fronts cut to fit my hubs; or get a dually rear cap that sticks out more for the rear, possibly all four?
I agree, the newer ones look much better. I got the 01-07 caps with my wheels and might as well use them.
You will need lugs. The SAE/Metric change happened after our generation.
These wheels take a 60 degree conical lug. 3/4 ton 73-87 trucks are 9/16-18, 1/2 ton are 7/16-?
