under hood wires need help bad!!!
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:36:54 PM »
Ok this is gonna be a long one but I will start slow. The first problem I bought the truck with no motor or tranny so that being said I don't know what some wires are for.  The first ones are there is a vacume line going to some wires on the fire wall near the heater box they are brown and a yellow wire.   Then there is the same thing right behind the brake booster???? Those wires are 2 green's and a light blue.  That's the first of the wire ?'s for tonight. Thanks.

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

The wires that are cut look like the water temp sender, the oil pressure sender, the oil pressure switch, and the carb fuel solenoid.  They are shown on the right side middle of this diagram: http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/wiring_diagrams/81-87_V8_engine.jpg

The red wire probably goes to +12.  I don't think any red wires connect to ground anywhere on my 78, not sure about your 86 but I would be surprised.  That splice looks like the one on the right side of the same diagram just down from the top.  That single piece of wire is the fusible link noted there, where a terminal that looks just like yours is connected to "JUNCTION BLOCK".

The black/white/green/brown connector I don't see in the diagrams.  Someone else may know.

Assuming we are talking about a 1986 truck:
This appears to be the distributor wire for the ESC, it should come out to the right side of the firewall and behind the firewall should be the ESC Box

Where does the other end of the wire go on this?  It could be the Vac switch for a 700R4, or the Cruise Control

Where does this come out at?  Straight out of the fuse block?

If you trace the wires back to the fuse block you can find out where they go easily by finding which section it goes to and viewing the wires in that section here:  http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/wiring_diagrams/81-87_V8_engine.jpg

This goes to the power distribution Junction block on the firewall, big diamond shaped block with 2 studs.  Power come from the starter/battery terminal from here and powers the interior wiring.

This is a Blown through supercharged smallbock :D

The vacume thing is pluged off the other end the wires go into the firewall, those wires come right out of the fuse block, and I found the last wire goes.  The motor is a 421 rr 200 cnc brodix headed roller cam 4-7 swap vortech strim with a csu blow through carb which will be on the dyno some time soon I hope.  That's why I want to find out these wires go I would like to use thee stock gauges and Im putting ac back on the truck.  I just need to figure out how to wire the fans into the ac to get one fan to come on with the air.

take a pic of the wires on the left of the vacuum switch.  If it has a 2x2 plug is is for the trans.
