1982 C20 Silverado stereo install
« on: January 15, 2012, 06:46:15 PM »
I picked up a Pioneer CD player to install in my truck.  The truck had the original AM/FM radio with a single 4x10 in the crnter of the dash.  Then the previous owner upgraded by adding the oe rear 4x10's behind the seat with hardware.  I believe there are three or four individual plugs that plug to the back of the oe delco radio.  The one I'm concerned about is the plug that sends power to the radio.  The three wires are yellow, black and gray.  Yellow is pwr, black is ground and gray is illumination.  When i wanted to hear the factory radio without turning the truck on I'd just pull the ignition key back to accessory position.  Now, with the new stereo,  I have to have the key forward in the on or run position to jam out and that's gonna drain my battery.  I had an 87R10 some time ago and can't remember how I had that stereo hooked up but I know I didnt have that problem.  What should I do?
God Bless John Wayne

You should of had a + to the fuse box, hot all the time for memory.  It should work in the accessory position that way.

There should be a wire that works in the on position and acc position.  Did the old stereo in the truck work this way ?

The yellow wire should be hot bot on accessory and on.  That wire should be on the switched wire to the new radio.  You need a B+ off the fuse box for the memory of the radio.
