Lookin for rear speakers with 2 piece seatbelt retractor
« on: July 08, 2020, 06:43:31 PM »
Hi all,

I have a 1976 Chevy K10 with the two piece seatbelt retraction system.

Looking for rear speaker suggestions keeping the stock seatbelt configuration.

The one dash speaker will just not do and I am unwilling to cut the door panels.

Thanks!

R.L.

Many options. Kick panel speakers, the 6x9"s bd posted, overhead, dash, under seat, behind seat, in door etc.

I got a couple of the 6x9 OEM speaker brackets from a salvage yard truck that goes behind the seat in the corners.

Keep in mind that tweeters and mids are lost on the listener when blocked by seats, etc.

As suggested, kick, overhead, etc, will deliver the best performance as long as there is 'air' between them and your ears, relatively speaking.

Use a crossover to block the high frequency from any speaker location that is 'blocked' from your ears.

You will enjoy a tighter bass, and much less noise.

I made these for my 78.  They are covered in matching carpet, have a 6.75" speaker in them and screw to the floor behind the seat facing up.  I didn't want the stock type because they fire sideways and lose most of the sound.

You just screw them in using the metal strap on the bottom with the speaker removed, then install the speaker and you're done.  There will be no bass but they sound good otherwise.  I also added a pic of the plexiglas plate I made to mount two 3.5 speakers in the dash opening.  I have high powered 6x9s in the door bottoms to handle the bass as I'm 6'2" and have no room for subs behind me.  The only way to get bass in one of these trucks is to mount powerful 6x9's in the doors or install a sub.

Forgot to add.  In my setup  I have 2x dash, 2x door, 2x rear speakers.  I have a 500w or so amp under the console.  The amp powers the door and rear speakers.  The head unit itself powers the dash speakers.   I put the door speakers on the sub output on the head unit so the fader controls levels from the dash speakers to the rear speakers, then I use the sub level to adjust the door speakers to what I want.

One last note...  The 6.75" speaker upfiring boxes I made are centered but offset 6 inches to the outside of my bucket seats.  I didn't even think if you have a bench.  It may not work as well behind a bench.  but behind my buckets they make a very decent sound stage with the dash speakers.
