cap fitment question
« on: August 27, 2019, 12:41:14 PM »
a local auction has a cap they say came off a 84 square.

as you can see theres no front window and it seals to the cab of the truck. my issue is ive not really seen caps for our trucks and want to make sure it looks like it might fit. does anyone have any idea if this look like it might fit?

the auction is an online auction and nobody has bidded on it yet so i might be able to get it for $1 but picking it up is my other issue and want to make sure i dont "get sick" for nothing

Same cap on 3 different trucks, last picture a different one.  As you can see color makes a difference.  The picture you gave looks like a correct era topper.  If you measure outside to outside front width is 72.5" and the rear is slightly less for a true topper that was made for a 73-87 GM truck

this is the only info they give

"8' Truck Cap Off of a 84 Chevy C10 Pickup Truck"

should of went up there and measured it

more pictures. no one has bidded on it still so might be worth the risk. looks like the back glass is cracked

That is a $50-150 cap in my area.  Replacement seals are available if you know where to get them.  The only drawback I see is the extra height is nice but if you garage it, it may be a concern.  Also the rear window is low and limits the height of things that can go in...  Mine had a bigger/taller rear window as pictured.  They are harder and harder to find.  80-96 Ford toppers fit decent but they don't taper towards the back and bother me in the side view mirrors.

I think you're seeing reflections on the glass, I don't see a break.

And YES, pls send pics of it on your rig!

yeah the glass is not broken. thought i was seeing the residue of duct tape. will prob set it on my mud truck and post some pictures. one of the gaskets that touch the cab is ripped but might be fixable or rigable. also the back door seams like its becoming detached in the top middle, you can see this in the pictures a little.

Well apparently Monday I pulled a groin muscle, was playing with the kids and took off running only made it a step and knew something wasn't right. So I stopped but damage was done. Tuesday started to limp. Wednesday limmp was getting worse but picked up the cap. Thursday I was in tears and couldn't move Friday needed crutches and Saturday went to doc where she told me not to go to work for another week and take it easy.

So I haven't been able to put the cap on a truck and it's still sitting on the trailer.

well aside from getting depressed when i pulled my truck out of the edge of the woods due to its deteriorating condition, the cap fit great. i think the rear end of it is slightly bow legged and the rear glass frame seams to be falling down. (how is the frame held in place?)

if the truck was in better condition i think it kind of makes the truck look better

Yes, well worth the money and effort to get it, even if you use it for storage
