Title: fuel selector valve fuse?
Post by: 86Silverado64 on September 01, 2018, 07:25:05 PM
Bout to go nuts.  Replace fuel pump, tank and sending unit and cant get fuel to the pump.  I know the pump is good cause I took the line off and stuck it in a bottle of gas and the truck runs.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do you have fuel in both tanks?
have you tried to bypass the valve?
did you do anything prior to the no fuel issue?

1986 K10, came with a 305 but now has a 350, dual gas tanks but have only used the drivers side since I have owned the truck.  Switched to the passenger tank when I first got the truck and figured out it was full of trash.  Never had an issue until carb started messing up. Truck sat for 6 months not having time to mess with it.  I cranked it one time, in the 6 months, but when I went back the next a couple weeks ago it would not start.  Pulled fuel line and no fuel.  decided to put a new carb on it and fuel pump.  Put a new carb and fuel pump on it but still no fuel to carb.  Pulled the gas tank and put a new tank and sending unit on it...…. other tank and sending unit didn't look good...rust.  Put 7-8 gallons of gas in it and still no gas to carb.
Does the fuel selector valve have a fuse and if so does anyone know the location for it?  Or any other ideas?

Hi 86:
Sorry I dont have a wiring diagram for a 86 model...do you have the glove box manual? If you do, it should show what all the fuses are for on the fuse box. If you dont have it, get down there and see if any of them are blown...if you see one that is blown it may be a circuit the fuel tank selector valve is on and so the valve is stuck on one tank that is either dry or clogged up.

If it turns out the selector valve is ok, other things to check out are:
-fuel caps...are they venting the tanks properly
-fuel tank vent lines...are they open and venting to the atmosphere or the EVAP cannister?
-rubber fuel lines from tanks through selector valve...are any split or cracked...if so, they could be preventing fuel pick-up.
Regards,
Henry

:-\  Think Im just gonna go and get enough fuel line to run from the tank to the pump and enough for the return line and bypass the hitech. Hate to jimmy rig it but hunting season is getting close and time is limited lol. Hated to even type that lol.
