Title: RPO Codes Missing
Post by: 1983C10 on June 04, 2020, 10:08:19 AM
Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a 1983 Chevy C10 that was originally a military truck but am unable to find the RPO codes anywhere. I have called my local dealership, tried compnine.com, and also contacted the Heritage center. No luck with any of those. All I was provided was an invoiced number. Does anyone know of any other routes to explore? I have checked in the seat, the tank was replaced so it won't be there, not in the glove box which the last owner replaced, and not on the inner fender. I would like to restore this truck as close to original as possible. Any help would be appreciated!

Most military trucks are 1984 and a D30 except for Blazers.  I have personally not heard of any 2 wheel drive 1/2 tons.  Pictures would be helpful and a VIN, you can leave the last 6 numbers off.

I was told it was an Air Force truck which was then auctioned off to a local Native American Reservation. The individual I purchased it from bought it from the reservation. VIN is 1GCDC14D0DFXXXXXX.

Is there a specific reason you need the RPO codes?  From my experience anything purchased for the government was usually as plain as they could be purchased.

I would like to restore it to original. Some things have been changed on the truck over the years.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/gm-media-archive.html  I believe there is a $50 cost to get the build sheet for your truck

I contacted the Heritage Center. They do not have any information on my truck other than a purchase date and a invoice number.

Shy of finding a build sheet between the foam and vinyl seat cover you are probably out of luck then.  What do you suspect was changed?

The previous owner mentioned that the seat cover was changed along with the rest of the interior. It is possible it was left in there if that was its original placement.  I will look one of these days. Fingers crossed. I am not sure what options the truck should or should not have if I am able to restore it to its original glory.

I have not heard of this before. Only the sticker that seems to go missing. Should there be a stamp somewhere?

If it is a Custom Deluxe which most are, there isn't many options for 1983.  There are only so many repro colors.  Mahogany is not one of them and was the interior for all the D30 and Blazers.  Air Force was usually a dark blue/grey with blue interior but most were Crew Cabs or Suburbans and usually the standard no frills truck with an automatic transmission being the only option.  This information is what I have seen over the 25 years in this hobby, I am no expert by any means.  Do you have any pictures of it?

It is a custom deluxe with a turbo 350 transmission. Here is the exterior. I am having trouble uploading a picture of the interior.
