So i live in high altitude and have a 1986 gmc c10 2wd short bed i have stripe alot weight off of it to where is two seat and a slip tank im running a stock 454 out of a 84 motorhome with a th350 that has no over drive it came out of the circle track race cars it had 2:73 gears and circle track slicks cuz i get that all for free and ran a 15.1 i soften the rear end and changed the gear ratio to 3:73 how much faster would that all have made it. Another thing is how hard is it to get a 500 horse 454?

The 3.73s will help quite a bit, but did you get traction or did you just soon the tires? How you launch and when you shift will make a difference too.

500 out of a 454 is pretty attainable. Just a match a cam, alum heads, and a good intake, headers probably wouldn't hurt and then tune it up. As long as it hooks it could probably do high twelves easy. Watch the trans though.

It has not been rebuilt but has low miles due to it coming from a camper

I know this is a older thread but I just joined and wanted to offer my .02.

First, you dont need high dollar aluminum heads to hit 500hp from a 454. Can be done with pretyt much all oem parts with a few mods and the right performance camshaft.

Second, since you are in CO look up Mark Jones AKA Vortecpro. He can help you out finding power in the higher elevations.

I would ditch the circle track slicks. they are not designed to be drag raced. Motorhome big blocks were built for torque, so its not going to rev high to pull through the 1/4 with 2.73's. gears and posi are huge upgrade on these trucks. Id look at the turbo 350 and find out what the stall converter is designed to stall at. if you plan on just drag racing a 2800 to 3000 stall would really help. good luck. my 1977 smog motor c10 did its best 14.6 and my current 1975 was on it's way to a high 13 second but the turbo 400 blew and locked up destroying my drive shaft. that was with a peg leg and a 1992 LT1 with a carb
