Title: Corporate 14 bolt full float gear change
Post by: zieg85 on December 16, 2018, 10:30:50 PM
I need some guidance on replacing the ring gear on my carrier.  I am replacing my 4.10 with a 3.21 on my G80 carrier in my 14 bolt full float rear end.  What torque should the bolt be at and should I use lock tight or not.  I've never done this so this is all new to me.  I have a dial indicator and will get the backlash set, check how the gears mesh and shim if necessary.  The front pinion housing is complete so I am not touching that.  I would appreciate any tips you have.  TIA

I have a 14 bolt FF, but don't really know much about replacing the gears.  You might find this article useful. https://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR-ARB/articles/14b_Gear_Setup/

When I looked at upgrade parts I don't remember seeing a ratio as high as 3.21 for this axle.  Most of them have 4.10 or 4.56 from the factory, so something that high seems unusual.

FYI - I've also considered getting rid of my G80 carrier and going to an open carrier in my 14 bolt, since all the limited slip and locking upgrades (ARB, etc.) are for an open carrier.  I'm not even sure my G80 locks properly, since I'm sure it was abused over the years.

3.21 are OEM and not available aftermarket that I know of.  Thanks for the link, it should be very helpful.
