Can I swap these yokes out for my 3/4 to 1/2 ton conversion
« on: August 28, 2007, 10:01:47 PM »
First, can I swap the 1/2 ton rear output yoke from an NP205 onto an NP203?
Second, will the yoke from a 10.5" ring gear 14 bolt FF axle fit onto a 12 bolt SF rear axle?  Dumping my 3.73 open 3/4 ton axles for my new 4.11 posi front and rear axles 1/2 ton axles and 35" swampers.

The yoke from the 14bff will not fit on the 12bsf (you will need a conversion joint or order the proper yoke).  The splines are the same but the yoke shaft diameter is over 1/4'' different.

Not sure about the transfer case yokes.

If it were me I wouldn't down grade to smaller / weaker axles even if they are posi.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Ditto, the swap won't work and why go from 3/4T axles down to 1/2T axles if you plan on running 35's.  If you plan to wheel it hard the 12's are going to be the new weak link.  Why not regear the the current axles to 4.56 for the 35's and add a posi.

You can add a lock-right to it for about $330 or a detroit locker for about $475 http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=639

Kind of thought that too.  I left my 1/2 ton axles under the deck for now.  They may go in the next scrap load.(no need for em).  I am also going to go and see what ratio my other set of 3/4 ton axles is.  They are supposed to be 4.56 posi axles, but I never looked.

If you are not wheeling it hard and don't have a bunch of power you can run a Gov-lok in the rear and lockright in the front, both are cheap.  I am running them and have no trouble yet.
