Title: Dorman Fuel Lines
Post by: spanky1205 on March 29, 2014, 06:21:37 AM
I did some searching but could not find anything in depth.  What does everyone think of the Dorman fuel lines?  I found this kit and it seems cheaper and easier than some of the other options out there.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XQ5IO4/ref=asc_df_B000XQ5IO41659917?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=5336075431-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B000XQ5IO4

My plans are to change the tank and lines on the truck listed in my sig since everything is rusted and leaking.  I really don't want all of that going into my new engine.

IIR CaptKoas has mentioned the Dorman brand fuel lines before as being dependable, I am sure others will chime in some time today.

I have that kit which is intended for repairing plastic fuel lines. If you are talking about 73-87 truck then Just run your own fuel lines and invest in a hydraulic fairing tool like the Mastercool one and run nicopp lines http://www.agscompany.com/automotive/brake-fuel-transmission-lines/nicopp/11

For what it is worth I contacted Dorman and asked them if it would be acceptable to use that kit.  This is a copy of the email:

Yes you can use this kit to run nylon fuel lines on your vehicle.

There are longer lengths of line available as well

800-071 is 25’ of 5/16”

800-072 is 25’ of 3/8”

Thank you

That does not attest to how long the hoses will last, however millions of vehicles running them should attest to something.

Why do you want to run plastic ones? They can kink and crack and when you need to move them for service they get damaged very easily. Nicopp is the way to go.

Hey thanks, I will look into it.  I am not set on anything I am just trying to learn about the options at this point.  Truth be told I was not completely sold on plastic.  It is just what the manufactures use and I hate crawling under my truck and looking at all of the rusted lines waiting to go bad at any minute.  I just want to fix the problem and forget about it.

They lasted 30 + years. Done right they'll outlast the truck or at least your use of it. :D

There are companies out there that sell prebent lines if you don't want to bend them yourself.  I have used classictube.com or inlinetube.com, I bent my own for my R10 Twin Turbo truck.

I bought some plastic lines on amazon.  Got my ends from the junkyard.  I just cut them off the cars at the fuel rail.  Removed old line and pressed them into mine with a caulking gun and flare tool clamp.  I can hold all of my fuel lines including filter with one finger and they have the integrity of a factory line.   Not to mention cheap.
