Light duty brakes on one side, heavy on the other...
« on: September 17, 2022, 11:10:04 AM »
Really really REALLY frustrated right now by the previous owner of my truck

I was doing the bearings because one side was toast, pulled the rotor got the bearing part numbers, measured the rotor and ordered the light duty parts. Parts came in, got one side done

Today I go to finish the job, rotor won't slide in it's getting hung up on the bearing. Take the dial calipers out and the spindle shaft is bigger than the bearing ID...

So then I measure the rotor and YEP, it's the bigger one.

Anybody ever see this type of shenanigans???

I can see how it could be done, even by accident if the whole side was changed out but you are even talking different brake hoses between JB3 and JD5 brakes

Yeah not sure, either way I'm pretty pissed. I have all the light duty bearings, rotors, pads and hoses, and half the job is done. Now trying to figure out what to do next

Get a matching spindle and change it out.

Much easier said than done, nobody seems to make a new light duty stock height spindle

And can't find anything used online

I found an 84 C10 at a junkyard nearby, there's a Burb at another yard but I'm not sure it would have light duty brakes

Upgrade that side, don't downgrade the other side. If you can't find one they make replacement ones as well and I see a few used ones on eBay
