Trying to decide on shorty, mid, or long tube headers. Suggestions in which is best/preferred.

Can’t go wrong with a set of longtubes. However, check the link below to some other posts on the site that have helped me in the past. I have personally purchased the set of shorty headers Vile mentions in the first post, and they work fine. The truck was slightly lowered and clearance was an issue. On my stock height ‘81, I have a set of hooker long tubes and they work fine. Somewhere I seem to remember hearing that shorty headers actually give better low end torque/HP than long tubes, so for trucks they would be more beneficial. Long tubes were better for higher RPMs. (Don’t quote me!) I will say it 8s a good idea to get them coated, or coat them yourself, regardless of the length of the header you purchase. Good luck!

We have the shorties they are talking about. They work great. We went from a 3" single exhaust to a 2 1/2" dual exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler with an internal X pipe and the shorty headers. There was a definite seat of the pants difference. Use Remflex gaskets.
