1988 crew cab r30 dually
« on: December 06, 2014, 06:44:11 PM »
Hey everyone, names Ryan. I'm 27 and this is my first truck build. I drag race .My brother, dad, and I build dragsters but this is my first project im pretty much doing alone. We usually work on everything together.  The square body Chevy's are my favorite trucks. I finally get to build the truck I've always wanted. It all started about 15 yrs. ago when my dad bought an '86 crew cab dually. Well his had to be scrapped due to rot. So I thought id get my own. January of 2013 I found this truck locally here in Ohio. It was brought back from Wyoming for another guys project but he decided to sell it. Its a 1988 crew cab dually r30. The cleanest and rust free '88 or anything from the '80s that iv seen. Since I live in Ohio and we love to use a lot of salt everything rusts. I bought it as a roller for $1700. I ended up saving the motor (454) and trans(Sm465) out of my dads truck. But I did pick up a NV4500 for $500 that I'm planning on using. It was behind a 6.5 and out of a auto parts store truck. Overdrive is gonna be nice. I plan on rebuilding the 454, possibly having to bore it out too. The plan for the motor is intake, cam, pistons, headers, carb. I ditched the peanut ports and picked up a set of iron oval ports. I want to be able to pull with it but for it to be fun too. I finally got to start on it this June. With me drag racing in the summer time for projects is hard to come by. The white one is my dads old one and the black is mine. (hopefully I can get pics uploaded soon. having problems with them being to big)

Welcome aboard, there is a wealth of knowledge on this site about these old trucks. Sounds like a great project.
