My Blazer Pics added 9-23-07
« on: September 19, 2007, 12:06:05 AM »
I dragged my 81 Blazer out of the weeds last weekend to resurrect it for a mud bog party this weekend. I put a new flywheel in and a used t case. I got it fired tonight after having a no spark issue and having to build a starter out of three. It is getting gas, when you step on the pedal it shoots into the carb good. It had a little bit of gas in it but I did put stable in it when I parked it. I added 10 gallons of fresh, dry gas, fuel injector carb cleaner and some mystery oil to the tank. I pulled the plugs and shot some PB Blaster down the cylinders two days ago.
To get it to fire you have to pump the crap out of the pedal. Then it fires and runs for a few seconds then dies. I am sure the carb needs a rebuild but is there anything else that might cause this?

Bad fuel pump, maybe? Check oil for gasoline smell.

Well I got it to run tonight for a longer period but it won't stop racing, and has a skip. I put new plugs in and then no spark again. Fiddled around etc. ended up putting a used coil in from my stash of parts. Still no spark. Then the starter acted up so I mess around with shimming it etc. trying to figure out the spark issue I ended up putting another used coil in, it fired right up. Still skipping not as bad but still racing. Shut it off, went to restart it and the starter bound up made all kins of bad noises.
I should have left it in the weds to finish rotting away!

Carb was rebuilt last night, going to slap it on there today, and see if it helps. I am sure it will.

What about the rotor in the distributor or a crack in the cap?

The carb was a drastic improvement. It was full of dirt and rust. The guy that rebuilt it said the gravel pit down the road had less dirt in it! We thought the fuel pressure was a bit low so I popped a new pump on.

After an 8 year hiatus the Blazer has still got what it takes. Awarded by crowd applause / cheers to the person / truck that put on the best show.

I backed the trophy up with a good burnout on the steel plate with my 55 too.
Few more pics.

Yes thats the trophy. A conglomeration of broken parts, with a brake rotor for a base!
